Like other users have mentioned, I’d like to increase the capacity of the memory and storage on my Byte 3.

If I buy a 128 GB SD card and I backup my current SD to a bigger one and run with more room (and more system memory?

If that’s possible, how do you do it, and how do you set it to be bootable?

      Hello dmteerlink,

Thank you for using our Forums. Let us address your questions:

The Byte3 have a max capacity of 256GB SD card, however it can’t be set as bootable. For what you want to do is better to upgrade the storage with a M.2 SATA SSD or a 2.5 SSD.

These are the requirements for additional storage in the Byte3:

2.5 SSD SATA up to 512 GB
      m.2 2280 SATA up to 320 GB

For those you can set them as the main drive in the system. The idea is that the Windows partition can be cloned and then deployed on the SSD drive. There is software that would allow you to do that very easy:

      https://www.partitionwizard.com/help/migrate-os-to-ssd-hd.html

There are also a couple of other apps with this option, you can see a few of them here: https://www.partitionwizard.com/clone-disk/migrate-windows-10.html

Let me know any further questions or concerns.

      Best regards

Are there any special physical mounting or interface requirements? Can any SATA III SSD be installed?

Once I’ve cloned Windows to the SSD, can I increase the system memory to 16 GB?

      Hello dmteerlink,

Are there any special physical mounting or interface requirements? Can any SATA III SSD be installed?

Yes, any 2.5 SATA III SSD can be installed. Please check our video tutorial of how to do it: https://youtu.be/9MCcasAj6_8?list=PLGfK-BrwQ8YFTqqwfVtDOistg17S4KB4m

Once I’ve cloned Windows to the SSD, can I increase the system memory to 16 GB?

No, the RAM is not upgradeable.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

      Best regards

4GB memory seems rather small, doesn’t that cause a large amount of swapping and degrade performance.

      Hello dmteerlink,

4 GB of RAM is more than enough for most of the daily common tasks, it doesn’t cause any drop in the performance.

However if you are looking for more RAM, you can always select the 8 GB of RAM option, available in our website and Amazon.

      Best regards.

      Thank you.

I bought a HP S700 M.2 SDD and installed it, then followed your instructions to use Partition Magic to copy the OS from the original drive to the M.2. It worked very well.

However since the free version doesn’t provide any GUID table support, I wonder – will the drive still function properly?

I ask this because the Win 10 1803 update was halted on the original drive due to lack of disk space, but it would try to work you through it.
On the new drive it shows it did a partial update, but won’t complete. I was wondering if that is a problem with the correct privs, or what. Suggestions?

      Hello dmteerlink,

It should work fine. Please run the Disk Cleanup software and then try to run the Windows Update again.

      Best regards
